FANI cyclone is very stronger in intensity on landfall and considered one of the strongest in last 20 years. The storm made landfall near Puri, in Odisha state, as the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane and packing sustained winds of 240 kilometers per hour (150 miles per hour). The strongest winds on the left side of cyclone eye just near the coastal line and causing heavy wind and water damages in low laying areas and possible flood situations.

The next 36 hours are crucial and it is expected to pass through West Bengal and to the north east of India. “People living in the West Bengal & Northeastern parts of the India — hundreds of thousands of families are facing a cyclonic storm. The central government is in constant touch with the governments in Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” India’s government has allocated $144 million for cyclone relief to storm-hit areas in the country’s northeast, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the “central government in this moment of trouble is with you all.”
